TQEHRF Project Grants

Philosophy of Grant: To fund the best health and medical research being conducted at TQEH in a fair and equitable peer reviewed process.  Grants are allocated from TQEHRF to TQEH under the guidance of TQEHRF’s Research Advisory Committee (RAC); a committee made up 9 respected researchers representing South Australian Research Institutes, Research Hospitals and Universities.

The RAC procedure is based on the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) application and assessment process and uses this process as the guide for funding research projects conducted at TQEH.  Any TQEH based projects that received a high NHMRC score, but were unsuccessful in obtaining funding can apply for TQEHRF RAC funding.  The RAC assesses each unsuccessful NHMRC application on scientific merit, potential and track record of the chief investigators and allocates funding to the strongest projects.  This strategy allows TQEHRF to fund research projects of the highest standard, ultimately enhancing the quality of research conducted at TQEH.  It is anticipated that the grants allocated to each research group should be sufficient to enable the researcher to gather sufficient preliminary data adequate to obtain NHMRC project funding within 2 years.

New Initiatives

Currently there are no funds available for new initiatives.  Please check back in 2008.

Philosophy of Grant: To fund new research initiatives with strong scientific plan and potential in a fair and equitable peer reviewed process.  New research initiatives can include funding for new research directions, start up research or funding for early career investigators.  The Sub-RAC procedure requires a committee of 6 Principle Medical Scientists from TQEH to assess applications on scientific plan and potential outcomes and allocate funding to the strongest projects.  This strategy is to encourage new research directions and initiatives and to encourage young research scientists to begin their careers at TQEH.  In conjunction with the RAC funding, it is anticipated that this grant will enhance the quality of research, whilst encouraging new developments and promote TQEH as a supportive environment for early career researchers.

Small Grants

Currently there are no funds available for small grants.  Please check back in 2008.

Philosophy of Grant: To provide small amounts of funding for various costs associated with health and medical research (eg travel, consumables, poster printing, conference fees etc) conducted at TQEH in a fair and equitable peer reviewed process that also occurs in a timely fashion.  Due to the size of the fund a fast turn around time is required; however the process must still be based on strong scientific merit, plan and potential.
