Foundation live and large in New York

THE Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Foundation hit the streets of New York recently, living it up with presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani and the high flyers of the Big Apple. The occasion? A fundraising dinner to honour Giuliani as Honorary President of the newly-formed Australian Prostate Cancer Society and to raise much-needed funds to continue research into cancer, especially prostate and breast cancer.

Researcher Dr Sally Stephenson presented a talk discussing her exciting work developing a treatment for cancer that targets cancer cells and leaves normal cells alone. The 47 stockbrokers and bankers present were impressed by her talk, as they were about Giuliani’s own story about his battle with prostate cancer and his generous donation of $10,000.

The dinner was a joint effort between the Foundation and Australian Consul-General in New York, and former state premier, John Olsen.

The amount of money raised from the dinner has not yet been finalised, but it has been deemed a huge success.
